About Fred Haney
Fred has been a dog-owner for thirty-eight years. His dogs have included Xego, a German short-haired pointer; Bonnie, an Irish setter; Melody, a Golden Retriever; Renne, a whippet/cocker mix; Breezer, a German shepherd/yellow lab mix; Jamie, a Golden Retriever; and Callie, a Golden Retriever.
My Doggie Says… combines Fred’s love of photography, writing and animals, especially dogs, into one package. After a wild-life photography expedition in Yellowstone National Park with his son Brad, Fred began to see patterns in Jamie’s actions and body language. Realizing that Jamie was expressing herself frequently, he tried to become a better “listener,” which, of course, made Jamie a better “talker.”
In 2001, when Jamie was five years old, he started to capture Jamie’s body language in a collection of photographs. By 2004, he had assembled hundreds of images, and he began writing brief stories about them. The result is My Doggie Says...
Fred M. Haney spent fifteen years in the computer business, where he managed strategic planning organizations for two Fortune 500 companies. He has been a high-tech venture capitalist and angel investor for twenty five years, during which time he has served on the board of directors of thirty companies. Recently, he co-founded a biotech company and a computer co-processor company; he serves as chairman of the board of both.
As a result of his work in venture capital and angel investing, he has been honored as Director of the Year by the Forum for Corporate Directors’ Orange County chapter and Mentor of the Year by the Orange County chapter of the American Electronics Association.
Fred has a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University, a Masters degree in Math from Colorado State University, and a B.A. Degree from Ohio Wesleyan University.
In his daily life, Fred spends a lot of time nurturing entrepreneurs. He never dreamed he’d be writing about —and cultivating— his Golden Retriever’s communication skills.
Fred writes the popular "My Doggie Says..." blog, offers fun insights into "dog talk," "dog relationships," and the warmth and intelligence of Man's Best Friend. He hosts the "My Doggie Says..." radio talk show on KFNX 1100 in Phoenix, Arizona. This show also addresses "dog talk" and "dog relationships." It is streamed over the Internet every Wednesday evening at 8:00 p.m. MST.
